We used to get sweets for 5p from Carmel pick and mix
They've gotten rid of it

I used to love the pick and mix but I did find it rather off putting when people (not only kids) would stick their hands in to take the unwrapped sweets rather than using the scoop or tongs.

From their instagram page looks like they closed down about 8 years ago. Sad https://www.instagram.com/kenr.....hl=en

Although the red ones were obviously the best. Hot day, good book, I could get through about 4 of those. Surprised Followed by the cola ones.

Who remembers when Chocolate fantasies was on Amhurst Parade?

ABC pharmacy on Stamford Hill, which then became Day Lewis pharmacy and is now Green Light pharmacy? It keeps on changing hands!

Who remembers the original kollel grocery? a shack in the back of Berries Triangle, near Bagel House, they used to check off your name from a list to be double sure you were a kollel family and were entitled to buy there. Nowadays 1010 is a far cry from the kollel grocery of old... It has been beautifully redone and anyone who wants can shop there Smile

And who remembers Brides by Losners on the centre of Stamford Hill?

YES! He used to continuously mutter Yiddish/ German phrases to himself. Is he still alive? I thought I saw him lately, and I was sure I was dreaming...

Who lived in Tottenham and remembers Leibish the grocery shop and Sonnys the newsagents?

Yes, Leibish!! Do you remember his mother used to serve at the till, always with black fingerless gloves?

Btw Leibish is the manager of the Carmel Tottenham store these days, on the site of the old shop; so for those who want a nostalgic whiff of the past... Wink

Did anyone else get their glasses by Sagels opticians on Manor Road? He was an elderly German man, really lovely, I think his wife also worked there. This would have been in the mid 80s, I recall going to Silvermans on Stamford Hill when I was a bit older so not sure if Sagels closed down or I thought Silvermans had nicer glasses.

Did anyone else get their clothing in Itzingers (near the Egg Stores?)

I remember Losners. Did anyone Jewish get gowns there???
