The host is inviting you, not the choson and kallah, so why do you need to get them anything?

Maybe if I were very fond of the couple I'd give them a small gift (or if I happened to have something in my "gifts box" ) but otherwise not. as sarahd says, it's the host/ess inviting me, not the couple.

isn't it usually the couple who tells the hostess who to invite?
I've been in that boat, and have not given gifts. but it depends on the situation.
every wedding has a budget, and EVERYONE can not be invited. sometimes some of the people who the couple would have wanted at the wedding, but were unable to invite get invited to the sheva brachos. we had a few of that type when I got married. some of those ppl. did give small gifts to us. I felt it was nice, but I definitely did not expect it!

my mil once told me if you are invitd to a sheva brachos you are suppose to give one present for the chosson and kallah and another present for the host. not sure how many ppl do that
