Pool question

I hope to iyh have a pool put in by my new home.. I wanted to ask for those who have experience with this any do's and don'ts or comments or advice you have to share in regards to this ... anything I should make sure to have and include or some things you put/did that you regret...

The most important thing you can provide is a TALL fence and a sturdy lock to keep curious neighborhood children out.

Set boundaries immediately because it is easier to not let random people use the pool than to have to tell people they no longer can use it.

Reasonable to me would be having only friends of your children be able to use the pool and only by an invitation so that it is a time when a responsible adult can closely supervise.

Tall fence and very secure lock as well as locked and gated backyard. I would invest in the kind of mechanical pool cover that can be walked on so that even if your child gets into the back yard by accident, they will be safe because they can't fall in. It also controls who can use the pool since you would keep it covered and only you would have the ability to have the cover roll up.

Check with insurance company so make sure you are adequately insured and probably get an umbrella policy that covers you for $5 million or so. The premiums on an umbrella policy is relatively cheap because they generally aren't needed.

The great thing about insurance is that it gives you a very valid reason for not allowing people to use your pool unless you have invited them and are supervising pool safety.

Something I really enjoy is having large steps into the pool for toddlers to play on. They get comfortable in one inch of water and slowly progress deeper.

This! A kid who is scared to go in the water can just sit on the steps getting comfortable.

Another thing, you are NEVER too safe. Whatever safety measures you think is good do one more thing. You C'V don't want to regret anything.

I added hooks on my fence wall for all goggles and puddle jumpers which is great and for some reason took me too long to do but that's for a later stage.

My pool has a tile lining at one edge. I had to change that since way too many people were slipping on it.

My parents have a very large shallow area which we love, but their pool is very big and that may not be what you want or have space for. A hot tub is really nice.

Double bonus is that a cover keeps the pool cleaner as leaves and other detritus are not blowing into it continually.

Thanks for all the tip .. about the electric cover I've heard it can be very sensitive and break easily....

The gold standard of safety for a pool is 2 separate self-closing gates.
