It's not that it expires, it's that bacteria and other stuff can enter and it's not safe.
I'm not so makpid with an older baby like 10 months plus, but I really do try to throw them out within a month even if it's not all used

I supplemented and a can would last me longer, so I kept it in the freezer once opened.

I keep a can for 5 weeks, based on a dr's recommendation. Formula is specifically NOT supposed to be kept in a freezer. Because it is so nutrient dense, normal bacterial transfer from making bottles can thrive and make it not safe. There's similar issues with formula bottles once the baby drinks from it, or with opened nutrition supplements such as ensure/pediasure.

Also, a freezer does not stop the bacteria from thriving, so that would not solve the issue.

The quality definitely goes down. I supplemented with some kids and formula fed others and saw the difference after more than a week even.

A freezer won't kill bacteria but the won't start growing or increase in the freezer either. If bacteria has not already developed then it should be fine being kept in the freezer from the start.

No problem honestly to use a can over 2 months. Nothing happened to my kid!
