Okay, I know this sounds weird, but until I realized "going to Rome" was in the vacation section, I thought it was a metaphor for something else. What, I had no idea.

"going to the Jericho" is an old-fashioned euphemism for visiting the outhouse--presumably b/c the outhouse was so far from the house it may as well have been in Jericho--or maybe because "the walls were tumbling down." (Hopefully not!) Now since this is slightly disrespectful of a city in the Holy Land, we could adopt "going to Rome" as our own expression for going to the bathroom. I like it!
