Hi, exploring communities if we were to make aliyah. Any advice is much appreciated! Here is my list of preferences:

1) Urban- Busy shopping, recreation, parks, etc. are walkable, mix of apartments and homes
2) Mamlachti Dati torani schools and significant enough torani community that can support you and your kids socially
3) Commutable to Tel Aviv (within an hour)

I listened to the Nefesh b'Nefesh videos for Zichron Ya'akov and Renana and they both said that torani communities are small, and that the more DL torani families send out their kids for high school. Would rather not do that to help natural socialization and settling in with local friends.

Rechovot, growing torani community meets all of your criteria.

Yad binyamin - but very expensive. Very strong torani.

Does Givat Shmuel have families or just singles?.
What about Beer Sheva? Not sure how far the train ride is but there is a torani community there. Not merkaz, though.

Alin Shvut meets all criteria except the distance.

Is Alon Shvut urban? I thought it was mostly suburban- mostly residential. For some reason I find suburbs to be suffocating and love being able to walk to do shopping, eat out, have activities like bowling, etc., and not be reliant on a car for basic needs, even if we have one for longer trips or commuting.

I know it sounds weird and insignificant to a lot of people, but it’s something that’s made me not want to move from Manhattan to the suburbs. We’d like to make aliya for other idealistic reasons as well, of course, but this has been a big point for me. And yeah, quite far from the Mercaz Smile

it doesn't sound weird at all! And you're totally right, it is more suburban than what it sounds like you're looking for... Alon Shvut has a small "merkaz mischari" with a few shops but there isn't really much that's "urban" about it..
Good luck!! I hope you find what you're looking for! I don't think it'll be so easy finding a solid torani community in the merkaz area... I may be wrong but from my impression the people around there are either secular, regular DL, or charedi (like bnei brak..)

Givat Shmuel is lovely for families and has a great dati leumi anglo community. I commute to Tel Aviv for work every day, but it can take a while because of traffic.

There is a whole "train community" from thegush to tel aviv. My husband did it for 8 years. Its a shlep but totally doable.

No alon shvut is a yishuv. Its got a post office, bank, 2 kupot cholim, pharmacy and a small area with some shops, but its a yishuv, not city like. There is a lot of greenery and parks though. But no, you wouldnt have any activities and would most likely need a car.
OK, so you need a city then. Good luck.

Givatayim has a torani community. Very urban, very commutable to tell Aviv. But I don't know if it has an anglo community.

Rechovot fits all of your list though. Check out Beit Heimfeld.

Raanana checks all your boxes, and it's a beautiful city. Definitely worth checking out!

What about Petach Tikva?
Seems like a mixed city.

Definitely rechovot.
There's everything from dati lite to very shtark torani. There is a nice size anglo community. The anglo shul chatam is more American yeshivish rather that dati Leumi but there are dati Leumi people who go there as it's a place where anglos get together. There is also beit heimfeld which is very strong torani community. There are quite a few young anglo families that go to beit heimfeld. There are good torani schools for boys and girls. Although the more torani girls would leave rechovot for high school and go to a פנימיה or to yad binyamin which isn't far.
