Sitting in front of a pile of report cards and my mind is blank! Need to come up with 20 or so teacher's comments by tomorrow and I cant string the words together! Help me fellow teachers, please! (8th grade)

I have an 8th grade daughter. I appreciate comments that aren't generic although I certainly understand why teachers do that. So if you can think of 1 thing for each child to mention you could make a parent's day.
For a good student the grade speaks for itself. I know my child does well in school. I appreciate hearing about her wonderful middos or how she went from only speaking when called on to actively participating in class discussions.
For a student who struggles with schoolwork then praise the effort and any improvements or highlight how else the child contributes to the class.

Find a good point in each student and focus on that.

thanks for the replies! to the mother with the 8th grader I definitely will be focusing on specifics and not just cop out with a generic comment but a nusach or two (and more!).could definitely jumpstart the thought process.

Use the sandwich method (you should have been trained to do this in school and/or teachers in-service days). Positive, constructive part, positive.
Dina Devorah has had a [insert praise] year. She excels in [blank] and is careful to [blank]. I would love to see her work to improve [blank]. She can do this by [blank]. Dina Devorah is [more praise] and I am looking forward to seeing her growth second semester.

My girls teachers are instructed to write only praise on report cards and constructive criticism should be given via phone call. Maybe different schools have different policies on this.

Some are easier to write than others! Pull out 5 report cards that are most straightforward and write them first, then the next 5, and so on. When you have the last 5 left, promise yourself a treat or a small gift. Always works for me!

So and so is a mature/polite/refined/intelligent/articulate/kind/thoughtful/creative/intellectual pupil who has done well/not fulfilled her potential/added much to the lessons…
I look forward to seeing her progress further next term

At our school, the constructive criticism is given by describing what the child is "working on" doing or "learning to" do. As a parent, I really do find it more pleasant to read that way. Even though I know that it's the same exact criticism.
