How can I stop WhatsApp from receiving new messages without turning my phone off?
I want to disconnect from WhatsApp for a little bit but I want to be able to still use my phone and check my emails.

Can’t you just delete the app from your phone?

if you delete whatsapp, make sure to back it up, so that when you decide to reinstall, you will have everything till the backup.

Some phones have the option to block the connection for individual apps and if ur phone doesn't have that feature there are third party apps that you can download that do that

You can see if your phone has a work or do not disturb option which limits what apps send you notifications for a period of time or may restrict you being able to even open the app as well.

Would you achieve the same result by turning off notifications? The messages would still come in but you won't see them until you decide to go back to the app.
