Anyone try the Sarno method for headaches? Someone just recommended it to me. After reading the book is there work or is it simple to implement?

I have successfully used it for back pain, neck pain, and elbow pain. DH told me someone in shul used it to get rid of post-Corona headaches.
It was not hard for me to implement. Pretty much, you just have to buy into the idea that the pain is not a result of anything that's really terribly wrong with you. Rather your brain is causing something to be wrong with you or creating a sensation of pain related to something inconsequential that actually is wrong with you in order to divert your attention from some other stress that it does not want you to focus on. Or something to that effect. You can read the book to get the exact idea. You may have to face your stress, but otherwise, I don't think it's hard to implement.

Treating anything does not have to be either/or. If you have multiple tools in your toolbox, you'd be a fool to only use the hammer.
Meds, monitoring, diet are all important. For some people, any kind of mindfulness or stress management can make a big difference.
Stress causes cortisol levels to rise. Cortisol leads to inflammation. If Dr. Sarno's methods can help you control stress, then all the better! If nothing else, it can't hurt you to be more aware of your stress triggers.
I've been using his methods for chronic pain for years. I've gone from using Oxycodone, to codeine/Tylenol, to naproxyn daily, to almost no pain meds at all. I'm better at "reading" my body, and respecting the cues I am getting.
There will be times of flare ups. That's part of life with chronic illness. If you can keep the flares fewer and farther between, that's a pretty big win in my book. |
Well said, as always, FF! Thank you for chiming in.
Blue, if someone was misdiagnosed with Crohn's and then found healing in alternative methods, I'm curious what the diagnosis actually might have been. My husband was extremel ill and had extensive testing. Bh he feels great but I wonder what was missed when he was told he has Crohn's.

My DH went to him many years ago and was cured of debilitating headaches. He had seen a top neurologist and was on various medications before trying it.
I wouldn't say it's easy work though. You need to really believe in it and completely change your mindset on what pain is and how it is manifested. It took DH many weeks to finally work through it all but bh he was cured and he has used the same method on various other ailments over the past 15 years.

Yellow, would you mind sharing what alternative methods worked for your husband?

OP here. I originally posted the question for someone I know. This person did not think Sarno was relevant for Crohn's, and I'm not sure if he tried it or not. He had been on the diet years back and then was able to go off the diet and was fine for many years. He got really sick again after getting COVID, which was why I posted the question. In the end, he went back on the diet and is doing perfectly again.

Yes, I have a brother who swears by Sarno’s method for crohn’s. He can tolerate almost any food at this point and is almost completely off medications.
I would absolutely advise trying this.

I spoke with a woman that is going sarno for crohns for 20 years now. She did the diet for 2 years prior to that. She eats everything.
