Have you seen this? "Dying Professor Gives his Last Lecture".

This is the 10 minute recap featured on Oprah.

You can see the entire lecture here. Caveat - he has a slight "potty mouth" with mild expletives, but it is worth the 76 minutes of inspiration.

I had gotten his lecture already in ELUL, at which time he said he was given 3 more months to live--is he still alive and lecturing, at Carnegie-Mellon????????

How would you like it if a great Jew, with little time left, did a lecture and a non-Jewish person described any Jewish content as "nonsense"? If you can't be respectful, don't bother watching something like this, no matter how inspirational.

I hope no non-Jews ever sign onto this site, I can't imagine what they would think of frum Jews!

Y cant someone watch to get the good inspiration, but dislike the less appealing parts. Where's the obligation to swallow everything whole???? I can respect the human being without being committed to agreeing with everything he says.
And speaking of respect, where's your respect for my right to my opinion?

amother. who didnt like my comments about nonsense -- did you watch the whole thing? Are you perfectly confident that there was no nonsense and everything was completely perfectly atuned to our Jewish aspirations. One of these Jewish values is "harchek mayhakiyur v'hadomeh loh."
I watched it from beginning to end. I found it nothing but fascinating, inspirational and intelligently given. I have no idea what the "non jewish nonsense" is that you speak of. Are you uncomfortable whenever you encounter something not connected with frum Judaism? If memory serves, you're the poster who was concerned about being "polluted" by attending the wedding of a non-frum relative.

If this is the way you feel, you should avoid anything offered by the non-Jewish world. I find Randy Pausch amazing and witty. I learned a lot from listening to him speak for 76 minutes. He didn't say anything religious at all, from what I could tell, so I have no clue where your comment came from.

It's a little weird to edit your post after someone has responded to it. The response to your point was at 11:30, and you edited the previous post at 12:20. The conversation doesn't make much sense when you do that. Why not just add a post?

As far as your edited point, you have your write to your opinion, and so do others. You use the term "non jewish nonsense," and I have a right to question such a critique. That has nothing to do with "swallowing everything whole."[/I]

I disagree (and why aren't you posting using your screen name when there is nothing personal in what you wrote?).

Anybody can watch anything posted here and comment about it, according to forum rules. You don't like her comments, don't read them! And don't read my next sentence since it willl bother you.

My husband and I watched the first 30 minutes, so far, and my comment to my husband, on Pausch's childhood dreams, was, "so non jewish." So there. I said it.

What you and your husband thought doesn't bother me, and it certainly doesn't surprise me.

She has a right to her opinion, and I have a right to mine.

I think it's fine to sequester yourself in your home and avoid any thought, opinion, or bit of knowledge offered by non-Jews. It's a limited life, but you are more than welcome to it.

I still stand by my point that I saw nothing Christian (or derived from any other religion) in his talk. I admire someone who has wonderful dreams and manages to achieve them, who gives credit to the wise people who helped him along the way and who serves to inspire a new generation of dreamers and achievers.

I'm proud to be Jewish and consider these some very Jewish attributes.

I am not sure how you deduced that from this thread. I am the poster who was concerned about attending the wedding of a non frum couple. They are not my relatives as I mentioned in my other thread. They are friends of my relatives. I did not post in this thread about Randy P. at all, so I'm not sure why you think it was me Confused

You're obviously talking about a different thread. Here is Sunnybrook's thread about the wedding, it created quite a stir:
