It was pretty amazing of Nechama to give the entire sum away to tzedaka, though I'm not sure why she ever bought a lottery ticket if she was so scared of winning.
I think she bought that lottery ticket because she'd already realized that it was Yissachar selling them, and she was looking for an excuse to speak to him, so she just bought a lottery ticket (because that's literally all those booths sell) without actually expecting to win.

Yes! And then he drank wine without a bracha too!
He should have said hagafen before shehakol and since there were side dishes those would have also been before the shehakol so that whole bracha was one big mess!
Lol. As someone upthread said, the only Bracha they ever seem to make is Shehakol, so this meal was way above their pay grade.
Agree white- feel it is manipulative and that is the message that it was somehow ok what lipa did even though Ruchamis trauma came from his disappearing - too much unrealistic inconsistent plot shifts
True, but Chanina wasn't asking his Rav for a psak on whether or not they should terminate. The doctor said in no uncertain terms that she must, or she will die. He was asking his Rosh Yeshiva on how he should convince her to do what halacha already mandated she should do. Ruchami knows this halacha, and doesn't care.
Do you think a Gadol Hador will understand Chanina or Ruchami? From a telephone call? What the gadol can do is say halacha or not - in this case, halacha is usually pretty clear. But to advise Chanina in how to prevent a suicidal woman from going through with a severely risky pregnancy? And if Ruchami defied doctors, Chanina, and her own parents to get pregnant, why should a third party be able to force her to do what she decided to already do? He doesn't KNOW them. He doesn't understand them the way the Rosh Yeshiva does, who already has a relationship with them.
And as we see, Ruchami is pretty much preparing for her own death, that's how big of a risk she's taking. And she's okay with it, she's accepted it. The Gadol Hador is irrelevant here, in this plotline. And in life, too.
.
Your arguments are compelling, but I think you are viewing this from your perspective on this issue, meaning your view on the role that Gedolim play in our lives. But for the specific community which Chanina and Ruchami are part of, going to consult with a gadol for a very sensitive, high stakes issue is the norm.
It's not just to ask what is the halacha (which may or may not be obvious). It's also to get his blessing and hadracha. And whatever the gadol lacks in knowing about the questioner personally, he makes up for in an element of siyata dishmaya or a level of Ruach hakodesh. You may not subscribe to this belief, but to people in this community (and a large part of Chareidi Jewry), consulting Rav Chaim Kanievski is the closest we can get to consulting with the Urim Vetumim today.
I heard a story of someone who came to the Chazon Ish zt"l, described his medical condition and said that the doctors recommended immediate brain surgery or he would die. The Chazon Ish thought about it for a while and said not to do it. He said that the gemara discusses such a case. Instead he told him to do something else and the man recovered. There are hundred of stories like this attributed to gedolim. We are talking not just miracles, but incredible siyata dishmaya and insight that regular rabbonim just don't have to that degree.
A RY like Rav Soloveitchik could have advised his talmid to reach inside himself to discover the answer in certain matters where the stakes are lower. But in life and death issues- never.

I agree with you and White. Just pointing out
that Ruchami actually ran away to marry Chanina when her parents were separated, not when Lipa disappeared. And it was Gitty who moved out as a result of the naming incident. You can say it was a buildup of events.
But I agree that it's disturbing how quick we are able to forget Lipa's betrayal and infidelity, just because he is the one sane and caring person in the story.
The real question is, how realistic is it for a person who has such a good heart, who is so grounded and loves his family so much, to abandon his wife and kids?
I think that's the unrealistic part.

I think Lipa's spirit was squashed by Gitty from the minute they got married and she understood that he wasn't going to be staying in learning. She's spiteful, dismissive, puts him down constantly. Of course he ran away. And then realized that he'd never see his kids again. So he came back. Trying to make the best of the lousy hand he's been dealt.
exactly baby pink
hey if we read a thread of a wife here describing what her husband did went overseas on a work trip and disappeared no word and she found out by going super worried to his place of work to see what happened and how to reach him and then she was left to support she and the kids financially which she did admirably ....whole different plot line and characters....like what would be the advice/posts...?
and Ruchami as the oldest really suffered from all the responsibility, secrecy, fear, abandonment which lead to her throwing notes into the bachur she found alone in a shul....crazy and dysfunctional
but now they decided to shift the "blame" change the story line and so on...feels manipulative to me and they are pushing the envelope...
ugh I do feel like as time goes on they are more into showing chareidim as majorly dysfunctional like "see the hypocrisy and dysfunction" of all frum
Hi can someone please tell me - why did Libbi pass away? do they tell you ? and also why is she in the car with him on the way to the auction but then she's dead??

His spirit may have been squashed, and you are right about what a difficult person Gitty is. But nothing excuses abandoning a wife and kids. You aren't happy? Go to therapy. Grow a backbone. Or give a get. You can't just disappear from one day to the next.
I agree with Tan.
But I also think that people who abandon their families are b'etzem selfish or disturbed people. Lipa is not. So that doesn't make sense.

They never say why..the assumption is that she and her mother died at the same time, so maybe there was an accident?
Kiva imagines Libbi with him all the time. She is not really there, he just feels her presence.
She is not really there when he paints her either (the time when the baby starts to cry and she says she wishes she could go back to nursing her. )
Good point! Too much death.
Since season one we saw the death of:
Shulem's wife
Bubbie Malka shtisel
Rebbetzin Erblich
The rebbe in the cheder (forget his name)
The shadchan Kenigsburg
Libby
Libbi's mother
Sucher
Two husbands of Elisheva
Adding now:
Shira Levinison's father
Also, Chanina is an orphan
And now the imminent death of Ruchami .
Maybe she will be the "one in a thousand" and pull through!
is there any where where this is available with english subtitles?
No, not yet. The season is still playing on tv in Israel (one more episode)
Im sure when it plays on netflix there will be english subtitles available.
If you are watching one of the earlier episodes, they leave that unclear. They only explain it later, maybe the 8th episode.
(You can find a conversation about it upthread.)
Also, it's not a fertility issue. She can easily get pregnant. It's an issue that is a danger to her life once she is pregnant.
Not sure if they're condoning Lipa- remember it was two series ago and many years... It's nice how he tries to help Yossile...
Yes, at first we don't understand why Libby can't nurse-- sick? Pregnant? Only at the very end of the episode, we saw it was all a dream
They better answer how Libby and her mother die in this coming episode, because I am not going to be amused if we have to wait another 6 years while they will they/won't they a season 4!
