I figure we're supposed to uplift the sparks found in chicken so it's not a logical problem for me to understand how I could eat chicken and throw bread crumbs to them. As the saying goes, the chicken went from saying "cluck cluck cluck" or whatever a chicken really says to saying "shema yisroel" (I heard that from Rabbi Alter Eliyahu Friedman of Tsfas but don't know where it's from)

As for this Shabbos...

Challah from Albany Bakery
Gefilte Fish from a jar
Salmon for me and our guest
Green Salad
Tomato Salad
Chicken soup with Lokshen and no Dill (my guest can't have it. I keep on forgetting! This time I HID the dill!)
Roast Chicken with kasha (thank you for reminding us!)
Deli Roll
Apple Sauce
Kokosh Cake
Tofutti
Chocolate Peanut Balls (maybe but maybe not... we've got enough dessert already)

I'm taking things fairly simple. We have 1 guest for night.

For those who have the custom of putting out breadcrumbs as a sign of "ha'karas ha'tov" to the birds -- how many of you also avoid serving chicken on Shabbos Beshalach?

I'm not being sarcastic, I really am just curious. I thought about the dichotomy this week, and decided to serve beef for both seudos instead of the usual chicken.
chickens are domestic barnyard birds. The birds who ate up the manna that Dasan and Aviram put out on Shabbos were the free-flying feathered friends that inhabit the treetops and skies, and frequent lawns, backyards and meadows.

GR, it is very simple because I buy ready-made dressing.
basically, shred the cabbage (I use purple), slice mushrooms & avocado and place on top of cabbage. Pour over dressing just before serving.
What I also like to do with the avocado is cut it in half & then in each half make very thin slices but not all the way through. Then, "fan" out the slices & place on top of the salad. Hope this makes sense Smile

We don't do the kasha thing, but I would dearly love to remember to put out bread crumbs. It would be the first time in my life that I remembered
You'll start remembering when your little ones start bringing home that little bird-house A&C for every Shabbos Shirah Music

We remembered! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Ds came home with a birds' nest, not a birdhouse, but it had the same effect.

I learned a good tip this erev shabbos regarding this recipe. Do not make or attempt to make when you are running on 2 hours sleep from the night before and it's only 2 hours til lichtbenchen.
Here's my story. I had to make it 3 times in total! The first time I put the eggs into the liquid to boil. Eggs are a liquid, right? Wrong. Anyone want a good recipe for poached egg in orange juice? Rolling Eyes
The second time, I was concentrating so much on not putting the eggs in too early, that I forgot them altogether Rolling Eyes

Third time came out very nice! Very Happy
