Cone ladies- their gowns also go out wide not to show shape of woman. starts with a point on top of their head & whole gown starts flowing outward from the shoulders.
saw them in Meron, wasn't sure these shawl or cone ladies were Jewish. Turns out they are Jewish women, trying to dress more tznius.
Tell me about Meron.
fascinating... I tried looking it up on google but all I found were really random things about math or ladies wanting ice cream cones...? oh gosh Meron... Rabi Shimon bar Yochai.. what will be this year?
My medical procedure was 3 years ago when I did bunion surgery and my bff stayed up with me for 48 hours helping me sleeping on the couch to be with me so that my parents could sleep in normal beds not w mattresses on the floor
The older I get, the more varied my best friends. I have so many best friends now... those who were my friends from my childhood and knew me then to those who joined my life and supported me when times were rough, I love them all.

Tell me about ur best friend
Omg. I had bunion surgery also, back in 2003. My mom did stay on a mattress on the first floor with me even after I told her to go sleep in her own bed. And thank God she did caus I woke up at 2 in the morning screaming in pain. Thank you ima! ❤️
My friends and family makes me feel warm and fuzzy. The little things
I wish I had good window covering. The sun comes up early and wakes me up in the morning.
Tell me about a perfect beach day. I wish I can see the water and the sun now
A perfect beach day is one that isn't blistering hot. But the water isn't freezing cold. Honesty, I think September ish would be good. After the icky dog days of summer but this way the ocean has been warming up all summer and the crowds are mostly dissipated.

Tell me about your favorite day trip
To a day spa with my sister- I usually never indulge!
What in the world is a cone lady?
I am picturing a lady with an empty cone in her hand.
There is a book of old photographs of Jews from 100 years ago. One image is at a graveyard, and all of the Temani women were there. They had high cones on their heads, and long white shawls draped over them, that reached the ground. It looked exactly like a KKK meeting!
To modern eyes it was bizarre, but to them it was just business as usual. Jews who lived in Arabic countries often had to take on some of the host countries form of dress, for survival reasons. That may have been part of it.
"Shawl ladies" generally are returning to the tzniut of the early 19th centuries, where it was normal for a woman to wear ankle length skirts and a shawl instead of a fitted jacket. The shawl was used to cover the hair. Only the most fanatic of the current shawl ladies cover their faces.
This is a good picture of what women used to look like: https://www.allposters.com/-sp....._.htm
Any Google of Jewish historical dress can show you similar examples.
My friend used to cover part of her face with her shawl, until one day her son asked her not to, because he was embarrassed in front of his friends when she walked him to school. She liked the anonymous feeling it gave her, but she decided to honor her son's feelings and give it up for his sake. I really respect that. She realized that her son's feelings were more important than a chumra.
I'm not going to trade in my sweaters and jackets for a shawl, or wear double layers in the middle of summer, but I got rid of all of my midi length skirts and only wear ankle length now. I feel very elegant this way (and I don't have to worry about my hem sneaking up on me!) Bonus, I can get away with wearing knee highs whenever I want to, and no one will ever know.
