You move to your bed instead - as an incentive. It really works. I should know.

Tell me about what you did today in this glorious weather?

My worst gift is not memorable. A friend of mine (in excellent health and not too old) got a grave as a gift from her father... That's what I would call the worst gift you could get from anyone...

Tell me about your first day in school...

Hmm trying to figure out what to make of the grave gift... I believe it’s actually a segula for long life and they are a lot of money so it may have really been a gesture of kindness and love 🤷🏻‍♀️. Especially depending where he bought it... was it in a family plot? Might not be as morbid as it sounds

Anyway first day in school... gosh, I remember when I was younger thinking everyone looked different after summer vacation and it had been so long since I had seen everyone last. But as I got older, the summer seemed so quick and I felt like I had just said goodbye to them all.

Tell me about changes in your perception

I used to think it's good to be good but later realized that sometimes to be too good is no good

Tell me how you say no

I used to just say no, as I am a very direct person and tell people what I think right to their face, without much fioritures...
Now I learned that there are also other (more manipulative?) methods... and I use them with small children and with my more sensitive friends...I am proud every time it works... it takes a very conscious effort on my part...
Being straightforward has advantages, since people know immediatly what you are up to... but it does not gain you friends easily...

Tell me what "being manipulative" means to you.

I always looked at being manipulative as a bad thing, but now I'm seeing you can use it for good too.

Tell me how you manipulate instead of saying no. (Teach me your ways!)

It definitely was a gesture of kindness and love, from a father who is a bit nerdy and not so much in tune with emotions, who has not had good communication with his daughter for decades (or ever?)...
It was not on a family plot... in a place my friend has no connection to...

I have a friend (nuresery school teacher) who does this as an art form... and I did it back to her.

The way she does it:

"I want to go to the cinema and watch a lovely mongolian step movie"
"Very good idea"
"So let's go".
"But wait, let's have look at the movie program. Perhaps there is something else you like"
"??? OK..."
"Look, here, it says Harry Potter 5... didn't you tell me you wanted to watch Harry Potter 5?"
"Well, actually"
"And it starts right now in 10 minutes, so let's go there"...

She always says "yes" and then changes the program till she gets what she wants...

I used to do with my young students try giving positive attention instead of negative, everyone would follow. Let's say after toilet time some kids would splash at sink, instead of yelling at them, I would tell everyone, wow I can't wait for next activity, let's all hurry into class.
Also, by clean up time, instead of prodding the lazy ones, I would say "oh look how Rachel, is cleaning up nicely & hand her a sticker" so they would all join.

Tell me how you use positive reinforcement

I compliment my kids before they even do the act I want them to be doing... “wow! Look how nicely you’re listening and cleaning up!” Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t 😆

Tell me about being positive and what it means to you

One of my sister's little boys had a lisp. The T sound came out as an F. He's autistic, and obsessed with dump trucks. They were on the bus one day, and went past a construction site. You can only imagine what he started yelling! Surprised My poor sister wanted to crawl under the seat and die.

To get off the couch, I have to walk the dog. She won't stop pawing at me until I get up and let her burn off some energy. She can be quite insistent, and then I feel guilty, so I have to mask up and take her the long way around the block.

What are you cooking with things from the back of your freezer?

Tell me a fun and easy activity for two cranky toddlers.

Do you have a pack of water balloons? Fill them and put them in the bathtub. Let the darlings put on bathing suits, get into the bathtub and have fun. We did it one day and it was great.
I also bought tons of shaving creams- the possibilities are endless.
