if you boil your gefilte fish , cover the head of fish with wax paper and boil it with the gefilte fish.

we are'nt going to eat it, so is it ok to have it raw on the table , just for the "idea"?( im not boiling my fish)

I called my mother in law to see what she does, cuz she also bakes her fish.she said, you need to cook it, cuz there is an inyan that the bal habayis has to eat it... she said to boil it in water with salt onion and carrot- like gefilte fish for 1/2 hour or until flaky. it wont taste great but its quick and your husband can just eat alittle , I am sure there will more of other delicious foods....

I buy a whole smoked whitefish, cut off the head, and serve the rest for the fish course!

Wow, that's a great idea! I was home Rosh Hashana for the first time, so I needed to prepare a fish head. I called my mother at work in a panic and asked how to do it; she thought it was the funniest thing she had heard all day (I am a pretty experienced cook as I have been cooking since age 8). She told me just to clean it, scrape off any scales and wash the inside and put it in the pot with the other fish. Which I did and my husband happily ate the whole thing. (Yecccchhh).
