I am trying to figure out an average of how much people spend on their daily supper.
If you can please specify how many people it fed- and extra credit if you share the menu.
You can round it out- no need for being exact.
Thank you
I'll go first:
2 adults
5 kids eating
$28 meat
$15 sides
$5 condiments

What kind of meat (that you serve on a weeknight) costs $28?
Also, where you live matters.
2 adults and 1 kid
Leftover chicken from Shabbos (package of chicken cost $8) $4
Leftover squash from Shabbos ($1.25)
Pasta (.79)
This dish (totally $6) will certainly yield leftovers for Tomorow night
Last night was equally cheap.
1/2 lb ground beef $2
8 Oz mushrooms .89
Brown rice (.50)
Slice peppers ($2)

I’ve never added it up but I’m pretty sure I almost never make a weekday meal that costs more than about $5, give or take, for two adults. Except maybe the occasional more expensive lasagna, etc.

I live in Manhattan where prices are high so I fonto brooklyn every now and then to stock up. Family packs of ground beef are very well priced. I divide it up into 1lb packages (ziplocks) which suit my family and freeze them. This week I used the 1 lb for 2 different recipes (one was beef curry with potatoes, peas and cauliflower served over couscous. Last night was brown rice mixed with ground beef and mushrooms.) sometimes I’ll use the whole pound for same recipe (meat loaf, meatballs, etc) but I try to stretch the meat as far as I can

pesek zman 1/2 lb of chopped meat would not be enough for 2 adults and 1 toddler in my house. I guess we're bigger eaters. I need 1 lb, more if I'm making something like burger.
How much rice did you make?

Where do you purchase salmon for 8 people for $10?
Or chicken, for that matter.

Salmon is regularly 9.99 a lb where I live in the midwest. I have stretched it in all kinds of ways to feed my family of 5. Flaked into pasta, salmon patties, tacos. 8 pcs of chicken can totally be under $10 if each person only eats one 1/8th.

It was 1 cup of brown rice to 1/2 lb of beef and 1/2 lb of mushrooms. We have a 1lb size deli container full of leftovers.
Really? My husband and I are both good eaters. I always find that 1lb feeds 2 adults, 2x. 1 lb usually yields 10 meatballs with a serving size being 2-2.5. 1lb yields an entire meatloaf which can be sliced into 6 generous slices. I always serve protein with one starch and one vegerable as well.
ETA: I cook a lot of chili’s (canned beans are super cheap) also pasta. 1lb of ground beef can easily be stretched to feed 6 people when made in a chili or with pasta (and sauce, Iike a meat ziti)

pesek zman I would also do 1 c. rice and approx the same amount of veggies. No leftovers. I guess we're just big eaters.
also dh doesn't eat a good lunch so he's very hungry at dinner time. I can't really change that so....

Tonight's dinner is simple because I didn't get to do my weekly grocery shopping yet and we are running on "empty".
I'm on a special diet and can only have lean protein today.
I'm having London broil for dinner $10.00
The rest of the family, DH and four adult size portions for kids will be scrambled eggs, whole wheat toast with melted cheese . Approx $10.00
If I add a salad, figure another $5.00.
On average, when I serve chicken , meat, dairy etc.it really doesn't matter, I realized I spend about $20-$25 on dinner daily, feeding 6 adult size portions .
