HI

I was expecting some friends over Shabes this week, but now after cooking the fish already - Gefilte fish - they called that they can't come this week at the end, and will try for next week.

I don't really have a problem other tha tI have now a huge amount of cooked Gefilte fish

Can I freeze half for next week, and will still taste good ?

Thanlks for you all and your advise in advance

I cook large amounts at a time and freeze, pull out the amount needed the day before and let it defrost in the refrigerator. No one knows except for me Smile

The fish freezes fine. The carrots don’t. Just toss them.
To add color when you serve defrosted fish, serve it on top of some lettuce leaves with cherry tomatoes and raddishes for color.

Recook it the way you cook raw fish. Even you won't know the difference. You can bake it in the oven instead of cooking it. I do that when I'm lazy and it's just fine.

I freeze cooked gefilte fish all the time also. My children like eating the fish warm so I rewarm it before shabbos and noone knows the difference. Just the carrots are not freezable.

Same. And we’ve tried freezing it in different ways.

I have heard from many people that they freeze fish and it’s fine but I never tried.
Here’s an idea for using the fish tonight or Sunday night.
Sauté lots of veggies. Add a can of tomato sauce with a little water. Sprinkle salt, pepper, sugar and then serve over a bed of rice with fish slices.

If you freeze, maybe use it for a week you won’t have guests in case it’s not how you want it to taste.

I think different brands yield different results (in terms of being watery or not) but generally speaking there is nothing actually wrong with freezing it. I do it because only one member of my family likes it, so I make a loaf, slice, freeze, and remove one slice per meal each week.
