How does an acid alkalize your body? That doesn't make sense.

It's a citrus fruit. Inside the body however, when lemon juice has been fully metabolized and its minerals are dissociated in the bloodstream, its effect is alkalizing and therefore raises the pH of body tissue (pH above 7 is alkaline)

I didn't read the above link but it's probably the best place to get a well rounded scientific based answer about how blood pH works. |
Thanks, but it doesn't directly address dietary effects?

From my very basic research on the subject, it doesn't seem like diet has any effect on blood pH whatsoever. It seems like blood pH is always kept very stable by the body, through the respiratory system and renal system. It is kept exactly between 7.36 and 7.42. Low pH or high pH is a medical emergency and can have fatal results if not treated. (Three guesses if it's treated with lemon water.)
Citrus is a great source of vitamin C and antioxidants and boosts the immune system and has anti-cancer properties and fights infections. These seem like good enough reasons to consume citrus whether or not it alkalizes the body or provides energy or helps lose weight.

Thanks, that's what I thought.

Its not just the blood. every organ needs to maintain a certain ph level. it is pulled from the blood so usually if the blood shows a proper level we can assume the rest of the body is in balance.
p.s. when I was looking for spermicide without Nonoxynol-9 I came across the contragel. this is the reasoning why it works
'ContraGel also effects the PH level of the private part, creating an inhospitable environment for sperm'

Sorry, I don't understand what you're trying to say. Can you explain? What does this have to do with whether or not drinking lemon juice affects pH?

if lemon water affects the ph level (thats up to you to believe or not) then it can promote general health. it will not cure you from anything, but it can alkalize your body somewhat.

How might someone come to believe that it does or doesn't?

Would this experience include measuring one's blood pH?

Is it the same concept as ACVinegar helping acid reflux?
My grandfather use to drink baking soda and lemon mixed with water (and a little sugar) every day to alkalize the body. He didn't use these terms but he said it was good for the "acid in the joints".
Anyone else heard of this.
