I recently adopted a couple out of the nest lovebirds and conures. They're only 1-2 weeks old, but silly as can be! I'll keep you updated on their development. It's amazing to see how quickly they grow.

Whoa. Very cute, but are you not worried about your daughter contracting salmonella? I learned that pet birds can be carriers as much as other reptiles. While very sweet, I don't think kissing like that is advisable.

No need to worry. Salmonella typically applies to farm birds and birds in unsanitary conditions. These are very clean and healthy babies. They don't sit in their feces like chickens and ducks would. Their brooder gets cleaned multiple times a day.
Very Happy

What do you feed them? How often? Where did you get them?

Thanks! Very Happy Their eyes usually start opening at around 2 weeks. They eat baby bird formula and I feed them every 3-4 hours. Handfeeding baby birds is something that you have to truly enjoy. There's not a lot of money in it, it's time consuming, and it can be heart breaking when a baby bird doesn't make it. But I absolutely love doing it. I will probably put these guys up for adoption once they have fully weaned. Most of the babies I handfeed are from my birds, but I got these little guys from a breeder.

They look like little embryos. Do you keep them in a cage?

Yummy yum yum. They are such adorable little cute-sees.

I can only imagine how gratifying it feels taking care of them so lovingly and watching them grow and mature day by day.

I'll be following this thread and watch them grow strong and healthy, hopefully bezr'H.

Thanks for sharing these beautiful moments with us. Smile

It truly is rewarding! Watching them start out as little naked, blind nuggets, and grow into these beautiful, colorful and friendly little creatures is an amazing experience.

Here's the oldest lovebird after their morning feeding. He/she is a stuffed turkey! (Im guessing a violet/blue coloring, but only time will tell.)

They're starting to look less "plucked" and more feathery.
