According to the Shela Hakodesh, erev Rosh Chodesh Sivan is an auspicious time for parents to pray for their children. The prayer by the Shela Hakodesh can be found at http://www.artscroll.com/image......pdf. It is a day of teshuva, tzedaka, and of resolution in improving all areas of home life.

Reminder to all: It's the minhag to say Tefilas Hashela on erev Rosh Chodesh Sivan. Tefilas Hashela is a tefila for success in raising children (it can also be said by those who do not yet have children).
Does anyone know, since erev R"Ch is Shabbos, do we say it on Friday or Thursday (since Thursday is Y"K katan)?

I was thinking about this Q..... however it specifically says- to be said EREV rosh chodesh. Doesn't say on Yom Kippur Koton of Chodesh Sivan.
Yes, usually erev RC is YKK.... but these are my thoughts.

I heard that you say it today (thursday). since you can't say such bakashos on shabbos, it's pushed back to thurs.

We learned that you can say bakashos which are asking about צרכי שמים(spiritual things), which would certainly include the tefilos hashla.
I don't know if everyone holds like that.
There is also absolutely no problem in saying Thurs and Fri (and Shabbos if you hold like I said) It's a beautiful tefila and can be said every day. The Shla particularly recommended saying it on Erev R.H. Sivan.

I wonder though, in the third paragraph the tefilla is asking for sons and daughters but two paragraphs later the long request asks, in detail for the children to be masters of Torah, masters of Mishna, masters of Talmud ... all presumably about boys, no?

It's not just that tefilla. It's a very special day to daven for present (and future) children that they should be ovdei Hashem and talmidei chachamim. So, as well as tefillas HaShloh you can daven in your own words/ say tehillim etc.
