My daughter will be two and she will be walking down the aisle at my brother-in-laws wedding. I have found a beautiful dress for her without sleeves(tank-top style). Does she need to have longer sleeves, or atleast short sleeves to walk down the aisle? I am looking for everyone's experience as to what would be appropriate. My MIL thinks we need to add sleeves to the dress, but I'm not sure?
Thanks!
I'm anonymous as I don't want to embarrass my MIL.

If the air conditioning is on she may be chilly and need a sweater but I don't think it is a tznius issue at age 2.

she does NOT "need" sleeves. but you might want a sweater as southern bubby says, for the ac.
I hope we get to see pictures at some point !!!!!

a light sweater would make the outfit more befitting of a wedding ceremony. Appropriateness isn't only about tznius; a two year old could wear a bathibng suit in public, but it doesn't make such good wedding attire.

Regardless of any objective issues, if your MIL thinks she should wear sleeves, I think you should humor her - it is her son's wedding, after all, and in planning a wedding, there is enough stress and disagreements - why add to it unnecessarily?

maybe try a nice long sleeved t shirt underneath, matching the material and color of the dress. something over it might ruin the effect of the dress.

I agree with Ima'la. The Children's Place has (had?) some very cute and fancy bollo sweaters. Maybe that would work.

A matching cardigan would look better than a tshirt. If you look in bridesmaid dress departments they usually have matching cardigans.

OP- Thank you all for your replies. I really appreciate it. I have been looking for a sweater that she could wear with it, but haven't seen anything that looks nice yet, but I still have another couple of months. Wish me luck! I'll let you know when I find something.
Thanks!

Personally, I don't think its too early to have a child dressed in a more tznius fashion. Sleeveless is not considered tznius, and I wouldn't even put a baby in a sleeveless dress without a t-shirt underneat or a sweater.
I just feel its a chinuch issue.
For the same reason, I don't believe, at ANY age of taking naked pictures of babys, toddlers, etc. It just bothers me.
But that's just my opinion.

I think your 2 year old daughter would look gorgeous and more appropriate wearing something more covered for the occasion.

like one poster said, a bathing suit is practical, but IMO for the swimming pool/water.
a sleeveless dress is practical, IMO, just for the warmest days, and only if you're outside - if you're inside the ac is on and many ppl are too cold.
for example, back in the day, I never wore tank tops. they just weren't practical, I was uncomfortable at least some of the time.

I personally find that there are so many dresses out there ... why not find something with sleeves ... little bubble sleeves and big bow are more feminine than a sleeveless dress in my opinion and covering up something seems less dressy ... but this is just my personal taste - not even having to do with tznius

Also use sunscreen if you take a little child outside without much covering. Those tiny little arms can get so red in the sun.

Ok Op I agree with you mil now don't
My opinion is short sleeves is better then no sleeves. And way more feminine the dresses they have for little girls

I wish it was true - I am trying to look now for a dress for dd's and neices to wear. They just do not sell that type of dress with sleeves. Unless it is a winter dress - ie velvet. Unless you have frum shops near you, which I don't.
