My son got a cast on his foot yesterday. Before they put the cast on, he was able to walk but only used his heel. He wasn't putting his foot down completely. Anyway, now he is walking around in his cast and putting pressure on his foot even though the doctor told him not to. I keep telling him not to, but he is doing it anyway. How bad is it for his foot if he only has a really tiny fracture?

It depends. But my 2.5 year old had a cast over the summer and after the first week was walking on it.
Typically the cast is put on and the sides are cut so if the foot swells it won't compress it. After a week, another layer of casting material is put on and the sides aren't cut because no more swelling is expected. Our doctor said once the second layer was one, walking on it was totally fine if my child was comfortable.

If an issue in the foot doesn't heal correctly it is easier for it to be reinjured. My best friend had injured her foot as a teenager and over ten years later we were walking around Manhattan and her food swelled after that old injury got aggravated and she's been having issues with her foot since that. It was .. omg... It was like wow.. almost ten years ... Poor friend.

You really need to ask the doctor what to do and how important it is
