at first glance I was going to say yeah, its fine for a beginner. but read the reviews on amazon. too many 1-star ratings, many complaints about threads looping or jamming. I think I would stay away.

I bought the brother xm3700 from costco. It was a few dollars more than other websites but they have a great return policy. So I was advised to buy from them so I can return it when it breaks. Sewing machines are delicate machines that break easily and can be costly to fix.

I bought a refurbished SQ-9000 apt 2 years ago foo a little over $100. It has a bunch of bells and whistles, but it's really easy to use. I got refurbished because most reviews said this model has certain problems, the refurbishing should fix that. I haven't had any real problems. It sews beautifully.
