Besides Salmon of Course.

What is a good white non fishy fish?

I'm thinking about doing fish tacos. I keep hearing about them and reading about them, and I've had them at 2 restaurants and neither were tasty. They both had things wrong with them.

But, I want my kids to eat the fish with breading and frying it.

Any ideas? Thanks

If fish is fresh it shouldn't smell fishy.
I always make breaded telapia in the oven.
Recently I've been using shredded coconut for the breading
I add spices to it. It's really delicious

Thanks, but we have allergies to coconut and while breaded fish is yummy, I would like to try without it.

You think that all white fish are created equal? I know fish shouldn't be fishy if it's fresh, but I know there's less fishy and more fishy out there.

Thanks though.

I also think tilapia is pretty un-fishy tasting.

I use tilapia for my fish tacos. I broil it with taco powder and oil and lime juice. The fish is good but what makes the taco amazing is the toppings- guacamole, pickled red onions, fresh salsa and cilantro, cabbage or shredded lettuce salad. It doesn't need all the toppings if you don't have time just stick to avacado slices and store bought salsa.

To our family tilapia is muddy tasting. We have tried and enjoyed cod or flounder.

Any fish that's white and not too fatty should taste mild. The fish that are darker in color always have a more pronounced flavor.

I just made a soy/honey tilapia and am so disappointed. It tastes super fishy and really unpleasantly so. I have been trying to find a recipe that would help my DH enjoy it a bit more being that it's more within our budget but I think this is the last attempt Help

Flounder and cod tend to have lighter, more delicate flavors.

Trout also can have a nice, light nonfishy taste, IMO, as long as it's very fresh. But I don't think it would work as well as cod or flounder for fish taccos. Also, I think trout (and talipia) for that matter are known for eating "garbage" (I.e. certain organic compounds and chemicals commonly found in the water they live), which can negatively effect the taste.

My family as well does not care for tilapia as we also feel it is mudy tasting. Thanks for that term, I was trying to put it into words.

What about sole which is similar to flounder.
