I've heard to keep the pit in the salad until you're ready to eat it. I've tried that and it worked.

I also leave the pit inside and it really helps.

Tried and true solution that I read online somewhere for mashed avocado...
(The other solutions are unreliable - lemon juice works if you use enough of it, but how lemony you like your avocado dip.)
Mash the avocado and add seasonings. Put into a container/bowl, etc. Smooth/flatten the top.
Carefully pour a little bit of water on top of the dip (tap water, cooled boiled water, whatever). There doesn't need to be a lot of it - just enough so that none of the avocado is exposed to air.
Before serving you can carefully pour out this extra liquid or just stir it in. A taller and narrower container makes this process easier (less surface area).
When I tried this I was surprised by how well it worked - and how this doesn't seem to be a well-known solution!
I'd love to hear feedback if anyone tries this!
Good luck!

Use spray oil to coat the top with oil. That works well for me.

I take some plastic wrap and pat it down on the avocado, making sure that no avocado is exposed to air.

Someone I know claims that putting the pit in a cup of water in the same room as an open avacado will keep it from turning brown. - ive never tried it but she claims it works! Cant imagine how... if I try it and it works ill let you know!

I do what Libby does. Sometimes mixing it in can water down the guacamole a little too much. Just something to keep in mind

Same here....works for me too. I do it all the time. The first time I did it I felt so foolish. But it works.
