I love hotdogs in blankets. One time, when it was just me and DH for Rosh Hashana, I just made soup, franks n' blankets, and corn dogs. Unhealthy, but so good!!!!!!!

I made franks in blankets for a chanuka party this week. They went much quicker than the dougnuts and latkes. (I ate about half a tray myself! Sad )

Ummm, just wondering why do people feel they need to make both meat and chicken for a regular friday night? Isn't it overkill?

This is my shabbos night menu:

home made challa
chummous, eggplant salad, eggplant pate, bought.
cherry tomato and sugar snap salad. (tomatoes on sale this week!)

chicken soup with lokshen and knaidlich from freezer

chicken (plain baked with seasoning)
Israeli toasted couscous with onions
carrot and celery stir fry.

homemade doughnuts made earlier in the week and frozen.

day (I didn't know I had any guests for this meal on friday, but 2 turned up)

Challa
gefilta fish
fresh salad
hommous techina egggplant salad etc

cholent

doughnuts

I make chicken and meat because when I have company I never know what people like. Most men like meat. And I only eat chicken.

Most people like chicken. They might prefer beef (I generally do b/c it's a bigger treat), but I wouldn't make beef for that reason - it's not like people will spit it out and hide it in the potted plants!

I would only make meat and chicken if I was having a lot of guests.

Friday night:
Homemade half and half challah
Gefilte fish
Baked chicken on a bed of rice seasoned with onion soup mix (although the chicken will probably be seasoned with a paste of mayo, black pepper, garlic powder and paprika with crushed cornflakes crumbs sprinkled on top)
Corn (maybe)
Dessert is undecided. I'm thinking a chocolate pudding pie of some sort.

Shabbat Lunch we are going to be 10 or 11 people (depending on whether D2 goes away for Shabbat or not).
Homemade half and half challah
Vegetarian cabbage soup
Fresh green salad with a choice of Italian vinagrette or tangy dijon dressing
Turkey (a rub of olive oil and garlic powder between the skin and flesh, with some added oil on the outside - I cook with the skin on, but since I don't go over the bird pulling off pinfeathers I remove the skin just before serving, hence the rub between skin and flesh)
Farfel with sauteed mushrooms and onions
Spiced unfried potatoes
Corn
Baked apples
