I do it on my dinette table, but I don't roll out the dough on the table, I do it between my two hands....

I use a tupperware mat (that rolls up) on my kitchen table.

I know it's a bit of a waste of money but it makes clean up a breeze- I put out a plastic (disposable) tablecloth first and roll onto that.

Here is a link to Williams Sonoma silpat mat. It works for lots of things, but one major one is you can put it anywhere and it rolls out challah and pastry AMAZINGLY. Also, use instead of oil for non-stick cookies, etc. And it stores away really easily. It's $24.

I use a hard plastic cutting board, the largest size, and it's perfect. 24"x18". I put a plastic disposable liner on top of my kitchen table, to deal with the flour and other mess. when I'm done, lift off, and no mess.

I use my cutting board, which I place on a slightly damp dishtowel to keep it from sliding around on the table.
