Hi,
Last time I cooked quinoa it came out all clumpy.
I need it for a salad and want to get it right.
Anyone any tips on how to cook it?
It says on the package to cook it for half an hour, the proportion 2:1.
Thanks

Ignore the box directions.
It's just over 1 cup of liquid to 1 cup of quinoa. Pre-rinse the quinoa and strain. Bring the water to a boil and add the quinoa. Cover and let it cook on a medium-high flame until the liquid is dissolved. Let it rest for about 15 minutes.

I was going to suggest 2:1 ratio water to quinoa. Put quinoa in pot, add boiling water, bring back to a boil, turn down to simmer and leave for 30 minutes. I usually add some spices and salt in with the quinoa.

1 cup quinoa
2 cups water
Rinse quinoa very well in a fine mesh colander or strainer, to remove the bitter coating. Set aside.
Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a 2 quart saucepan. Add rinsed quinoa. Return to a boil, then lower heat and simmer, covered, for 10-15 minutes, until all water is absorbed. When done, the quinoa appears soft and translucent, and the germ ring will be visible along the outside edge of the quinoa. Remove from heat, fluff, cover and let it stand for 5 minutes. Set aside to cool.
(Then add chopped veggies, onion, garlic, herbs, lemon, olive oil, and salt and pepper to taste.)

I take the amount of quinoa that I want to cook and first toast it for a few minutes in a frying pan.
Make sure to keep on stirring so it doesn't burn. This way the quinoa doesn't clump as much and it's really yummy!
I also saute about 3 onions for 2 cups of quinoa, then I add the quinao and cook it for the right amount of time. The Onions really add a lot. Good Luck!
