Hi everyone,
I am hoping some of you experienced mothers can help me out with this one. I had a friend over with her baby for YK. After she left I began to notice that the guest room (which doubles as my office) really smelled like urine. I wasn't sure what happened and at first I thought that maybe the baby pished on the carpet or something and finally yesterday I found a dirty diaper in my regular wastebasket next to my desk. I obviously threw out the diaper and all the contents of the wastebasket but the room still smells pretty bad. Any advice? I am expecting my first baby soon so I am not really well versed in how to deal with diapers....

Open the windows, spray the carpet with Frebreeze, spray air freshener in the room, wash out the garbage can with hot water & soap & let that air out too.

Nix the air freshener. The propellant is toxic and not something you or your baby should inhale. Sprinkle baking soda on the carpet and in the wastebasket, let it stand as long as you like--several hours to several days-- then vacuum or carpet-sweep. You can add to the baking soda crushed dried fragrant flower petals or herbs like peppermint leaves or lavender. You can also pour a few drops of essentail oil like lavender, peppermint or lemon to a spritz bottle of water, shake well, and spray that into the air.
Plastic wastebaskets tend to hold on to odors. they're inexpensive, so you may want to replace it if the odor doesn't vanish in due time.
