Basic beets

what is the basic ingredients to beet salad. like when they're just cubed on their own...vinegar, sugar? any suggestions will be appreciated.

lemon juice, vinegar, salt, a touch of olive oil
(imo adding sugar is a matter of taste, but some honey can do wonders)

beet salad

1 can beets
1/4 cup suger
1/4 tabls corn starch dissolve in a little bit of water
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup juice from the beets
bring bring lemon juice corn starch sauce to a boil
*** the suger. boil for 5 min. pour sauce over beets
marinade for a few hours. enjoy

I roast whole beets wrapped in aluminum foil. I peel & cube them & add vinegar, fresh squeezed lemon, salt, freshly ground black pepper, a drizzle of olive oil. When I have fresh dill, I add that as well. I make this just about every shabbos. Smile

My SIL made a beet salad where she just sliced it and drizzled a little bit of olive oil, and fresh crushed garlic, with a little salt and pepper.

I double-wrap the whole unpeeled beetroots (scrubbed, top and tail trimmed) and bake in an oven till it's soft. Once cool to handle, peel and cut in cubes.

My dressing is very simple. 1tbsp olive oil, 1tbsp each lemon and orange juice, a bit of salt and cumin seeds (whole or ground). Optionally you can add chopped scalion, or sectioned oranges. Orange and beetroot goes very nicely. I don't like to add vinegar (HATE that pickled beet stuff) nor sugar (beetroots baked above is quite sweet on its own).

For milky meals, beetroots go very nicely with feta or sheep cheese.
