Today I came up with this great idea that will help me clean up. it gets me to clean up in the first place, do a good job, and be excited about it. and best of all it allows my husband to appreciate the work I did.

and now, presenting........

without further ado.....

drumroll please......

the digital camera!!!!!!!
:redface

for those of you who said huh?, I will explain.

you take a picture of the messy room to clean, trying to get the best angle so you can see alllllll of the mess. whatever fits in the veiw of the camera is all you have to clean, (for now). now looking at your picture, you clean up all the things that are out of place, then you take a picture of the same area, and voila!! before.. and after...!!!! gives you a great feeling of satisfaction, looking at those 2 pictures. now you want that clean picture to look really nice so you can show off to your husband, friends, mother, the great job you did, so make sure you really clean well.
then repeat with all sections of the house needing to be cleaned.
when showing off your pictures be sure to mention the work that is not shown in the picture, like sweeping crumbs that you cant see, or mopping up a spill of water. or the toys that didnt make it into the angle of the picture.

I'm debating whether or not to show off my pictures from today's cleanup!!

Pleae do! That's a really good idea. I used to pretend that someone was watching me clean and being a bit of a show-oof, I was always inspired to do a great job. Then I grew up and stopped caring so much about what others thought of my housekeeping abilities, so it stopped working!

yael that reminds me of the cartoon where hubby comes home 2 utter chaos and asks wife (lolling on couch munching chocs, oblivious 2 all around her) what on earth has happened - she replies " remember how u always ask me what I do all day? well 2day I didnt do it!!!"

technic you are not meant to admit to it. I don't have a closet...I have one little space where I put my hoover and my ironing board is in the bathroom along with the iron which is on the windowsill.
I make sure to get the house clean by Wednesday and this week I was happily surprised to find that my son had not made the floors dirty with crumbs, so I didn't need to hoover twice a week like I usually have to.
Worst thing for me is cleaning the dishes in the kitchen and sweeping the floor there because the floor was put in by some bampot who didn't know what he/she was doing and so it isn't tacked down properly and now it is raised in places and all un-even and is moving further away from the walls.
Maybe this year we will go out and get a new floor.
I like your idea yael, very good. Maybe I shall try it...I should have done it when I tidied up the windowsill where we keep the non cordless and I would have got such nachas...I would have framed the pics. Maybe we should have a photo gallery on here of before and after pics and vote.

LOL I wished that I had taken before photos after we were done getting the house beautiful for the open house. We had to clean everything! The closets and kitchen cabinetts were fair game for opening too so they were all cleaned out and organised as well. It feels wonderful to have it done but it was a lot of work! We got rid of a lot of clutter and stuff we just didn't need or use so keeping the house looking picture perfect is much easier now.

I really wished we had taken before pictures though Smile

Indianamom - at least you clean when he isnt around. I never clean, and our house is spotless. Your brother has ulcers from all the stress he goes through to get the house clean. (has anyone figured out that we are SILS?)

Have any of you ladies heard of flylady? She has a 10 minute a day cleaning routine that keeps your house very presentable. I can't remember her website, I think it is through yahoo groups or something.

I recently found the flylady site too - (it's http://www.flylady.com/ ) I kinda like it, I just take the parts I like and ignore the rest. Be warned, you get a flood of email if you sign up for her email list.
