I know we’ve heatedly discussed this here before, but Rabbi Kastel of Lub Youth agreed with me that Modern is not the word to describe either kids at risk or those who aren’t sure where they want to be in Yiddishkeit.

He said it oversimplifies it and over generalizes it.

Now, if we just had a word………..or several words !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do such kids need to be labeled like modern or such.. you can say these are kids seeking answers in life and when they do find them they will be up to par with the right level.

how about helping then instead of creating words for them? most kids either they are at risk or looking for answers need guidance and support.

Truthfully I do not think modern kids are more at risk that is how they were taught and that is how they know but someone who drops should not be called modern for the reason it makes you look down at the modern who are doing things as they know KWIM?

oh...well...
I don't think categorizing more will help the situation. It can only serve to antagonize these at risk teens more, by categorizing them, and using judgemental words on them.

Yea, it's the name-calling and the judging that's the problem.

SaraG, I think of it more as "confused." and I feel terrible for them because people who are confused and looking around for attention are not happy people.
