so if women have a farbrengen or mashiach's seudah or make kiddush (no men around) they can't use some light wine? what about beer? (no, I don't drink beer but I know women who do)

IMO, I think halacha states very clearly that smoking is assur. Watching ones body is a mitzva. Doing something intentionally that is known to cause disease and death is a transgression of this mitza. I know rabbonim have not made smoking assur but it def. should be.

In addition smoking is a reflection of a persons character. To me a smoker spells selfish, no self control, inconsiderate and reckless.

Remember these are my opinions you dont have to feel the same way....

I'm not sure, you understand, but making a lechaim is different than DRINKING.

By the way, didn't Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka smoke cigarettes? I'm ducking the tomatoes, but I really think she had the habit-I've heard it discussed more than once.

Don't forget, a few generations ago, smoking was a very elegant, wordly and sophisticated thing to do-and quite ladylike. If she did, the Rebbetzin must have smoked before the ills of cigarettes were well known.

what are you talking about?
where did you hear this?

I've heard it here and there.

thats why I wanted to see if anyone else had heard it too.

She was a very private person, so I dont know if anyone can really confirm it-

if it were true, it wouldnt change anything about her tzidkus. it would just be interesting.

I'll ask DH, I think he might know.
