IMO, I think halacha states very clearly that smoking is assur. Watching ones body is a mitzva. Doing something intentionally that is known to cause disease and death is a transgression of this mitza. I know rabbonim have not made smoking assur but it def. should be.
In addition smoking is a reflection of a persons character. To me a smoker spells selfish, no self control, inconsiderate and reckless.
Remember these are my opinions you dont have to feel the same way....

Quote: | By the way, didn't Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka smoke cigarettes? I'm ducking the tomatoes, but I really think she had the habit-I've heard it discussed more than once.
Don't forget, a few generations ago, smoking was a very elegant, wordly and sophisticated thing to do-and quite ladylike. If she did, the Rebbetzin must have smoked before the ills of cigarettes were well known. |
what are you talking about?
where did you hear this?

I've heard it here and there.
thats why I wanted to see if anyone else had heard it too.
She was a very private person, so I dont know if anyone can really confirm it-
if it were true, it wouldnt change anything about her tzidkus. it would just be interesting.
I'll ask DH, I think he might know.
