My parents used to bring back thommy mayo & dove deoderant whenever they traveled to Europe. Some type of instant tea too. I forgot the name.

I like that thommy comes in a tube, because you can squeze it out on the plate & it looks pretty. Like when you use a decorating tip.

it depends on what "Grade" of dairy, hard cheese is NOT Grade A. Grade A includes yogurt, milk, cottage cheese, and sour cream.
We had to work with the FDA for a few years to get Tnuva into California, but NY laws are stricter and the odds of legal Grade A stuff on the east coast is slim.

So, we have Tnuva cottage cheese over here, but you won't find it in NY

). No, the OU does not certify Thomy. I was comparing the general standards for kashrus in Europe to the standards applied by American hashgachos such as the OU. In other words, the Rabbanim who compile the Swiss kosher list are much stricter than many of the rabbanim who give hechsherim here in the States.

For example, Thomy is considered kosher despite a non-kosher ingredient, which is batel beshishim. The OU allows far greater leniencies on kosher products.

Hmmm... well if everyone considers it kosher and is willing to eat it, then whether any particular agency will grant it a hashgacha seems like a completely academic discussion (to me, anyway).

And unless you know that the OU does indeed grant hecshers to products with trace ingredients of treif purposely added it, then how can you claim they are lax on this matter? (still confused)

BTW, I looked found the ingredient list for Thomy. I assume the brandy vinegar is the problem.

Sarahd age gives you chances for all sorts of things...with me it was gallstones that required me to lose my whole gall bladder and I was one of the unlucky ones who after the operation can't eat any fat...

Ewa-jo thanks for the heads up on the donuts! From the picture they look like the other kind though, the dunkin donuts kind not the cake kind (think entenmans)...but who cares I can't eat them anyhow, although I'm salivating from the picture...

always goes to a ahava store for her special creams (something like 4 or 5 age defying creams).

Yes, they sell Entenman's here, I've seen frozen boxes for 50 shekels at Meatland in Raanana. B"H, I don't care for that brand and would love CY Dunkin Donuts here, although I'd never pay extravagantly for them.

I don't have much to add to this thread. I send some items to the States but not many, mostly they send stuff my way. I tend to send stuff they can get there but is more expensive or harder to find OOT. Stuff like baking papers, cut and pre-folded, CY Dolce de leche, white pareve "chocolate" chips, tichels/scarves, kipot, tzitzit, tec. Oh, AVAHA foot cream I buy for my MIL, here it is much cheaper bought in the kupat cholim pharmacy and it is great stuff. They sell it in the US for 3-4 times as much. Some people like the aluminum tins that are English cake size, long and thin, that I've never seen in the US but maybe they've imported by now.

So, I can't think of a single thing that would be worth it to import save the great cheeses already mentioned.

Oh that's funny, Shabbat, just saw you wrote about Ahava creams too.

what is seasonal? buyign cream? my mother in law buys them whenever she comes to israel, fall, winter, spring and summer, no difference Smile

In my mall in the States they were there year round...

Dunkin Donuts was in Israel ten years ago. It failed, like most other similar ventures do.

Points for effort, DrMom, but no cigar. Smile

That mayonnaise is not kosher. The only kosher Thomy mayonnaise is mayonnaise á la française, which doesn't have brandy vinegar (which in any case in the mayonnaise you looked up is more than 2% of the total content.) I don't know what the problem ingredient is.
