Nope. I'm a bas levy.
Our kids potentially can have, and if so, it would be the first pidyon haben in my family for a looooong time.
I've been to one pidyon haben in my life.

Can I ask- people say "I was zoche to have a pidyon haben". Why is it a zchus? The reason people make a pidyon haben is because bechorim were mekudash to serve Hashem, but they lost the zchus during the chet ha'egel, and kohanim and leviim got to be Hashem's helpers instead.
So the fact that a bechor yisrael has to have a pidyon is just a reminder that bnei yisrael sinned with the chet ha'egel but shevet levi didn't.

So I'd say Baruch Hashem, no pidyon Haben here- my ancestors didn't sin with the chet ha'egel.

Maybe I should make a split from this thread.

It's still a mitzvah, and it's not a mitzvah everyone is able to do. Not so different from mitzvot hatluyot ba'aretz.

Yup I had boy girl twins. The boy was born first so b'h we had a pidyon haben.

if the girl would've been born first we couldn't have had one.

My husband and I are not from kohanim or leviim
I had no c-sections b'h
and no miscarriages b'h

Yes, we had a pidyon for DS. The previous pidyon on my side of the family was my grandfather's 100 years before. DH is BT so he does not know if his own father, who was niftar, had one.

No, had a late mis. Pretty sad cause my oldest is a boy.

Only 2 sisters, out of 9 kids total, could make pidyan haben. All my brothers wives are bas cohen or bas levi, 1 sister - kohen 1 sister - c-section and then theres me.

My first is a girl and I'm a Bas Levi.

Interestingly enough however, my first son is my husband's Bechor so he has to fast for the Fast of the Firstborn right before Pesach. Despite not being MY firstborn and being a c-section.

My aunt and uncle have KA'H six children and 4 of the 6 made Pidyonim. Of the other two, one had a late miss (then had a boy) and the other has 1 girl. But if things had gone differently, all 6 could have made.

I know a man who made 2 pidyons -- one for the bechor from his first wife, and one for his bechor from his second.

In my husband's family, 4/9 firstborns had pidyons. 1 more was a boy born via C-section, the rest were girls.
My only married sibling with kids made one.

No. Dh is a kohen. DS was born with a c-section.
Regarding the fasting its interesting because our rav said that its a sheila if a child born from a c-section has to fast eruv Pesach. So its an even bigger sheila if the father has to until the child is bar mitzva. My FIL is a bachur and makes a siyum every year eruv Pesach so my DH just goes there so he doesn't have to worry about it.

This was recently discovered when we were having a pidyon haben for my brother's baby. Since it was the first pidyon haben in our family, it was a pretty big deal. When asked why my oldest brother never had one, my mother said she had a mis before, and never thought he was "eligible." My brother asked his Rav, and was told that if it was an early mis, he needed to get a pidyon haben. Turns out it was in the early stages of the first trimester, and my brother who is almost 50 had to get a pidyon haben. Smile

I thought you only do a pidyon haben if its your first pregnancy.....

Depends when you miscarry. I think that 40 days may be the cut off point. In any event we asked and the cohen was very careful to ascertain the exact date too.
