To answer a previous question, yes, there is a bracha said at a pidyon haben - made by the father of the baby.
Someone in my husband's yeshiva had a baby boy after miscarriage (I am not sure how far along, but I think past the first trimester). Their Rav said that the pidyon should be done not publically but just with a minyan and no bracha should be said. So my husband was asked to do the pidyon; they gathered 10 guys and did it quietly in the hallway in yeshiva.

A VBAC is never considered a peter rechem.

It was funny; at my nephew's pidyon the Rav was talking about how rare it is, and the bunch of us just looked at each other...of the 4 married siblings (5, but the 5th was in the week of 7 brachot at the time!), 3 had firstborn boys so we all made pidyon[im?]. And DH is firstborn...so out of 5 opportunities in the immediate family there had been 4...not so rare around here I guess!

Yes, if the first twin to exit through the birth canal is a boy, that baby is redeemed. If they are both boys, only the bechor is redeemed.
Marian, that's really funny. I'd hardly call it a rare event. In my family with my married siblings, 1 out of 4 of us made one. Two families had girls first, two had boys, but we are Cohanim so only the other family made a pidyon. The 25% rate is probrably a good rough stat of the chances of a pidyon. The 75% represents firstborn girls, Levi/Cohen, C section boys and boys after late miscarriages. Again, rough stat here.

You need another poll option for more than one of the above. I didn't have one because I'm from a family of Leviim, my husband is a Levi, plus my firstborn was a girl!

Yes. My 2 sisters and I made pidyon habens for our sons all within a 4 month period!
Before that I had only been to one pidyon haben, and haven't been to any since.

The baby has to be a bechor AND a peter rechem. Presumably a VBAC is a peter rechem, but not a bechor.
BTW, you all realize the poll results are unreliable, right? I almost didn't open this thread and vote, because we have a dd first. I would imagine that those who have made a pidyon would be more likely to be interested and vote.

Well, we made 2 pidyonim. My bil is a Cohen, and dh asked his rosh yeshiva if it's better to give it to a karov (relative) or to a meyuchas. His rosh yeshiva said for shalom, hive it to the karov, and then quietly bring other coins to the meyuchas, especially since there was recently a family that found out they weren't cohanim, and they had done a few pidyonim. My dh said his rosh yeshiva probably wasn't thinking about how expensive the coins are!
And to the poster who said her father has a whole collection of silver dollars, make sure he doesn't use them to pay his groceries! He could sell them for a lot more than a dollar each! They cost us over $150 for five of them! (yup, so we paid $300 because we got 10...)
