Hi..
just wondering, if any of your kids have had foot and mouth, and what you did to treat it..
My 18 month old has lesions in his mouth and one on his thumb, low grade fever and cranky!!!!!
Can I get it?? Im pregnant, is it dangerous??

Zu has had it twice. Once when I was preg, and just recently got over the second time. We were told all we could do is push liquids (cause it hurts to drink so they don't want to and can become dehydrated) and give tylenol if he is super uncomfortable. I was told to let my ob know its in the house. MY ob was not concerned and told me let her know if Iget it cause than she doesn't want me coming in for my weekly visit (HAHA!), but no worries.

try "magic mouthwash" take 1 tsp benadryl and 1 tsp maalox and mix them together then use a q-tip to "paint" the lesions. It only works temporarily but will last long enough for him to drink so he doesn't get dehydrated. I'd also be generous with tylenol/motrin bec. its really painful

Don't be generous with the tylenol that could do more harm than good.
Too much paracetamol could cause serious damage to the kidneys.
Maybe if the kid can't swallow the tylenol can you get suppositories?
Not a nice way to give it but it'll save the pain. I jhave also heard of that Maalox thing.

I didn't mean be generous as in give too much, but don't hesitate to give it. I've often seen parents wait and wait to give these meds and in the meantime the kids are in pain. tylenol, motrin and paracetamol, given properly in the right doses, are among the safest drugs we have.

Hi Tovah...
are you from UK by any chance?? Because I never heard of this before moving here???
Foot and mouth is a nasty childhood virus, which produces canker sores all over the mouth, and can also produce blisters on the hands and the feet.... Ut is highly contagious, and kids usually pick it up at school.....
