I plan on making a salad with apples, hard cheese, lettuce, and maybe nuts. What kind of homemade dressing can I use? It could be mayo based, but only if it doesn't end up tasting like a waldoof salad. I don't like waldorf salad. TIA

I'm not sure how it'll taste with the lettuce but I have a great salad I make with cubed apples and I use vanilla yogurt and cinnamon as a dressing. It's fantastic.

But this one does not have cheese

Apple and Lettuce Mustard Salad (Dining In Again) - 6 servings
8 oz greens
2 Granny Smith Apples cut into matchstick strips
1 large chpped peach (optional - I never put this in)
1/2 cup craisins
1/2 cup chopped honey glazed pecans

mix

2 T honey
2 T mustard
2 T vinegar
1/3 cup oil
dash of salt and pepper

Mix dressing.

Toss with salad right before serving

I dont' suppose it has cheese in it, does it? I have too much cheese and wanted to use it. I can't freeze it because it doesn't taste so great afterwards and it gets moldy very quickly. Can you post the recipe and I'll see? My kids like cinnamon and I'd just have to buy the yogurt, unless the really liquidy yogurt like a drink will work because I have that in my house. Thanks!

I just cube apples and sometimes put in raisins. That's it. Simple and easy and delicious. I buy the large Mehadrin Vanilla yogurt and just add cinnamon till I like the taste.

What kind of cheese are you trying to get rid of? I'm a huge dairy fan and I cook a lot of dairy. Maybe I can come up with another use for the cheese for you.

Thanks, but my kids don't like raisins. Don't mention craisins because they don't like that either and besides they don't even sell it here. Thanks about other ideas for the cheese, but I'm not cooking anymore. I don't know what kind of cheese it is, it's sliced and that's all I know LOL . Maybe I'll try sky's recipe and add cheese. Thank you!

DH hates raisins as well. I make it without.
Good luck with your recipe!

We're, meaning me, is kind of tired of caramel and I wouldn't waste my precious peanut butter on dressing Rolling Eyes . Thanks, but I see someone else wants it.

I know this is from last year, but if you make this or a similar salad...two questions.

1) Do you leave the peel on the apple before cutting it?
2) If I don't have pecans, can I do something to slivered almonds to make them taste similar?

Leave the peel on for color.
You can make your own carmelized almonds.

I like it with a balsamic dressing. It's not homemade but the manzone one is great with these types of salads. For homemade a balsamic, raspberry or strawberry vinaigrette would be great with it.

well nevermind, I just saw this was old. but these are still good dressings for a green salad with fruit and nuts. lol.
