maybe someone else can answer this question? I dont know!

I'll clarify the question:

Chow Mein noodles (like LaChoy brand) are thick, brown and an inch long.
Rice noodles (also can be LaChoy brand) are thinner and usually come in a can.

Ramen noodles are usually sold together in soup (instant type) packages,
but people put them in salads often.

Do you know which type goes in that recipe, goldrose ??
Thanks again for that great list !
Yes, to rotate a few slads a week is great !

I'm looking to add to my salad repetoire, (ok, totally butchered the spelling there)!

I have a bunch of lettuce/spinach-based recipes. I want other veggie-based recipes. I make a great white cabbage salad with soy sauce, sunflower seeds, etc. but I make it a few times a week already. any other ideas? (btw, I don't have the patience to check brocolli.)

I dont have the recipe but have been wanting one for a while, maybe someone else does, its the hearts of palm salad.

Does it have to be a salad or just a veggie? I make green beans with crispy shallots everyone loves it!

here's the white cabbage salad recipe. sorry, I don't measure, but I think there's a very similar recipe in Kosher By Design:

white cabbage, coarsely chopped
green onions, chopped
sesame / sunflower seeds, toasted (I like a lot of seeds. I put them in like a main ingredient and not just as a garnish)

for the dressing, again, I don't measure. better to add just a little of each to begin with. you can always add more according to your taste.

veggie / canola oil
white vinegar
white sugar
soy sauce, just a little because it has a very strong flavor

it's best to make this 30ish minutes ahead of time so the flavors can mix.

Here are some more ideas:

Black Bean and Couscous Salad

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup uncooked couscous
1 1/4 cups chicken broth
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive
oil
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
8 green onions, chopped
1 red bell pepper, seeded and
chopped
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1 cup frozen corn kernels,
thawed
2 (15 ounce) cans black beans,
drained
salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS:
1. Bring chicken broth to a boil in a 2 quart or larger sauce pan and stir in the couscous. Cover the pot and remove from heat. Let stand for 5 minutes.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lime juice, vinegar and cumin. Add green onions, red pepper, cilantro, corn and beans and toss to coat.
3. Fluff the couscous well, breaking up any chunks. Add to the bowl with the vegetables and mix well. Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve at once or refrigerate until ready to serve.

chicken salad
• 1/4 cup sesame seeds
• 1 (16 ounce) package bow tie pasta
• 1/2 cup vegetable oil
• 1/3 cup light soy sauce
• 1/3 cup rice vinegar
• 1 teaspoon sesame oil
• 3 tablespoons white sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
• 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
• 3 cups shredded, cooked chicken breast meat
• 1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro
• 1/3 cup chopped green onion
________________________________________
DIRECTIONS:
1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add sesame seeds, and cook stirring frequently until lightly toasted. Remove from heat, and set aside.
2. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta, and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, or until al dente. Drain pasta, and rinse under cold water until cool. Transfer to a large bowl.
3. In a jar with a tight-fitting lid, combine vegetable oil, soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, sugar, sesame seeds, ginger, and pepper. Shake well.
4. Pour sesame dressing over pasta, and toss to coat evenly. Gently mix in chicken, cilantro, and green onions.

the truth is that I omit the nuts and seeds and just use coleslaw, scallions and noodles most of the time anyway, and it comes out fine.
