Easy Oven Farfel Recipe

1 (8 oz.) pkg. farfel (really good with Ferencz's Mama farfel)
1/4 cup oil
2 Tbsp sugar
1-1/2 tsp garlic powder
1-1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper

2-3/4 cup water (don't add until later)

Preheat oven to 400.
Combine farfel, oil and spices in a pan and mix well. (Pan size: about half the size of a 9x13, but deep.)
Place pan in oven for 10 - 15 minutes (I usually set the timer for 13 minutes), or until farfel is browned.
Add 2-3/4 cups water and cover tightly with foil.
Bake covered for 1 hour.
Keep tightly covered until ready to serve.

(NOTE: If your bag of farfel is larger than 8 oz., use a scant 1-1/2 cups of the farfel.

I know that this may be a ridiculous question but what is farfel exactly?

Buck wheat. pasta? I ate it once and it was really good.

The Ferencz's package says there are 4 servings in a pack.
If you are not using Ferencz's (which comes out best), use scant 1-1/2 cups of any farfel.

Will freezing it change it's texture at all, or is it really a good frrzing candidate?

I never froze it, but my mother did. And she said that it was really good. (I don't usually freeze things like this.)
I think it's all about how you wrap it for the freezer, and how you reheat it.

I've also made this a couple of times - delicious, really quick prep time, and barely any cleanup.

only question: the leftovers in the fridge tend to become "gluey" - the whole thing is a few lumps that are hard to break up. Any suggestions?

Yup, that's what happens.
Just use a fork to break it up/mash it before reheating.
