Anyone keep their own last name when they got married? Anyone's husband switch to your last name? Anyone make up a totally new last name? I was reading an article in the paper about this so I was just curious if anyone here went against the norm in this department.

I use both my maiden and married name. I officially have my married last name, as that's what my marriage license has. but I never changed it with schoo', work, my bank or credit cards, etc, because it's just too much confusion. so even though I technically go by my husband's last name, I use my maiden one a lot more often.

I use my married name.
I had to change everything that had my maiden name on for my husband green card.
I'm so happy I did it. Less complicated now!!

I use my married name but not for everything.
Basically, until I switch my last name on my social security card, everything that entitles my name has my maiden name ie: insurance, bank, drivers liscence, passport etc

I switched my name on everything (passport, social security card, drivers license) during the week of sheva brachos! I was so happy to be married to my hubby and I wanted us to have the same name and be one indivisible unit. There is much less confusing when flying as a family, health insurence, bank accounts, and more...

I use my maiden name officially, that's just how it is. my husband likes to tease me about it. It does get confusing sometimes though.

I use my husbands last name but never got around to switching thing like my DL or SS card. A few years ago I finally switched my name on my SS card because the IRS questioned our joint return because they said that my SS # was not the same last name as my DH. Still never got around to the DL though. I just don't want to wait for hours at the DMV.

I use only my husband's last name and months can pass without me remembering my maiden name. I like my husband's last name a lot and do not miss my old one (which I like as well). But I am plannign to have a headache with my first name now. I got my sitizenship and changed my English first name to Hebrew one. I was so tired from having two first names! First of all I hated to be called by my English name. Secondly I could never remember which name I use at a particular place. I feel so much better now with full Jewish name!
