is hibernation, migration, etc (how animals adapt to winter) a good theme? you can bring it down to their level. ex. animals get very cold in the winter and they do not have houses so they need special ways not to freeze. some animals, like bears go to sleep for the whole winter so they don't feel the cold. other animals like birds and fish fly or swim to much warmer places. other animals stay where they are and continue to do their regular stuff but they do something to help them stay warm. rabbits grow extra fur like a coat. squirrels huddle together to stay warm. they also collect nuts beforehand so they don't have to go out in the snow. (I did this lesson plan for an older grade for a college course so just make sure you dont have the same teacher as me. LOL!)

Thanks for the ideas, I actually also have to give this lesson because I'm being observed by my college professor. But I think that these ideas will be too hard for my students to grasp. I see you said you did it for older grades. Thanks anyways

Thanks sounds like some good ideas, what do you mean by "pick out clothes from big pile"?
