My parents never wanted me to pierce my ears, for them it was mutilation/making ugly. I also had a hard time convincing my dh it was ok...

I think most piercings on white girls just look awful. Ethnic people can look very natural and good in these things, but us?? no way! (except exceptions)

We shall see! We're b"H meeting with a va'ad klita soon. My dh really wanted it (so did I). No way am I taking it out!

Watch out for tongue rings. NOT GOOD! My husband is a dentist and he does not approve. They can cause serious complications. I will list them and if you want more details see link below (warning: one or 2 pretty gross pictures).

The reason it shouldn't happen is because it is against halacha to tattoo your body. Not a chassidish issue.

Why then don't you try temporary tatoos? I use them, and have fun choosing diff ones all the time. They stay for about 3-5 days usually, sometimes longer (like a week). I google 'temporary tatoos' and order them online.

Hi Evie!

I, too, have a nosering. I also had all kinds of other piercings and I took them out over time because I just found them annoying after a while. Holes closed up pretty quickly (the one on the tounge closed up VERY quickly), so clearly this is NOT an issue of permancy. Didn't leave any scars behind either.

At any rate. I do have a nosering and live in a religious community. After I got my nose pierced, I had some sideways looks from a few people, but then within 3 months a few other ladies got their noses pierced, too in my yishuv. Now it's old news and readily accepted. Very Happy

I really didn't care what people thought about it. I wanted to do it. It's between me and my maker. It doesn't violate any halachot. Doesn't bother anyone else from living their lives. It really is a very personal decision.

...and I had it done with a very near and dear friend (hi near and dear friend. LOL

), also a religious woman who was very obviously pregnant at the time and we came in with our children (and husbands)as religious women, in Israel, and had a blast. We now have a bond that is uniquely ours but also something we share and I love sharing that with my sister-friend. In some cultures, this particular point on the nose is supposed to assist in having an easy childbirth experience, which is one of the reasons they pierce it (think acupuncture/pressure). My dh was not so thrilled about it, but we do have an understanding, and have since we were dating, that what I wear/do with my body is my choice and not his. He is welcome to share his feelings and give me his imput, but I have the ultimate say over how I present myself to myself and the world. The same goes for him. I would like him to do certain things with his hair and whatnot, but he prefers to wear his hair (including facial hair) a certain way and even though he is aware of my opinion, he made a choice that he prefers it his way and not mine and that is HIS choice to make (not mine). He wasn't into the nosering, but when I told him that I was doing it, he was very supportive and helpful in accomidating that decision. If it had been a serious shalom bayit issue, I would have looked at the root cause of that issue and tried to figure out if that root cause should be dealt with in more depth or not first.

Anyways, I also have no problems blowing my nose or even picking my nose! shock

You can get noserings that are flush up agains the skin on the inside of your nose, or hoops/rings that just press together so that there are "no ends" and it really is a non issue.

It is also very easy to keep clean and outside of the initial healing period (I recommend HIGHLY...VERY HIGHLY... getting an excellent quality metal to assist in this process, for example titanium or pure gold (not gold plating) or stainless steel or surgical grade steel or Sterling silver, etc...), which can take some time (even months) is is very easy and painless to remove and replace with new jewelry or when going to the mikvah (check with your rav about how YOU hold for the healing process or for jewelry that you never change and never take out...)

I love it and feel beautiful with it. I have jewelry that is a small gemstone dot on my nose but usually wear either my twisted sterling silver mini hoop or my solid gold hoop. Makes me feel like Mother Rivkah. Smile

They actually make 'clip on' hoops for the nose that look quite real when on. For those of you who want to try them out for fun. I bought one years ago on the street in Manhattan. It was fun to wear for a while.

If you looked at me you'd never guess that I had it but I think thats part of the fun of it - its strictly for my husband and he happens to love it. About the infection and everything I took care of it for about 2 weeks after the piercing very carefully and I never had an infection and it's been about 2 years. I take it out when I go to the mik and it goes back in easily. But now I'm really scared about what happens if I get pregnant again. Does it really look that awful? Ok maybe Im just naive... but whats so good about being pierced in all those awful places or having tattoo's? gosh when I see the celebrities I think to myself "Is this classy? elegant?"

I think its pure ugly. dont think its elegant, classy or smart for that matter.
(sorry if I insulted some of you out there but this is just my opinion)!!!

I see a lot of pregnant women who have had their belly button's pierced. They have to take it out at some point in the pregnancy, but no, not stretched out and horrible looking. You often don't even notice unless they tell you.

Come on, Hello. Was that really necessary to say? I know you didn't mean to insult anyone, but if someone said to me, "No offense, but I hate your earrings. I think they're really ugly, and they make you look trashy." I would still take offense.

Having any body part pierced is a personal decision, just as what clothes or shoes or head covering a person chooses is a personal decision, based on what that person thinks looks best on them. Saying "I think nose rings are pure ugly," is just as insulting as me saying, "I think high heels look really ugly and trashy." Saying that would insult a lot of people. If your opinion is insulting to someone, there is no need to share it.

Yeah, I also fail to see the reason for a frozen pea... it's a frozen pea and from I can see (never having had my tongue pierced) doesn't come close to the real thing.

Oh, and to the person who suggested the fake nose rings or the ones that close with a magnet... those HURT! LOL
