My easiest( and voted favorite by the guests) chicken recipe:
Mix ketchup and brown sugar together in a bowl.
Spread over chicken pieces.
Sprinkle generously with sesame seeds.
Bake as normal.
Warning: a lot more than usual goes when I make this sauce.

I do this with minced garlic on top and sometimes fried onions. Very yummy

Sweet Lemon-Curry Chicken
1 whole chicken, cut into 8ths, or chicken cutlets (I like it better on bone-in)
cornflake crumbs
egg
1 c sugar
1 t curry powder
1/4 t paprika
1 T lemon juice
salt & pepper
Coat chicken with egg and dip into cornflake crumbs. Bake covered at 400 for 30 minutes. Mix all other ingredients. Spread (or just glop) half the mixture on each side of the chicken peices. Put back into the oven, uncovered, for 30 minutes.
Let me know if you try it! |
this looks good, but 1 entire cup of sugar?

yup, I use a whole cup. it's a lot, and I'm sure if you put in 3/4 or even less that it would still taste great. I just love this so much that I don't want to mess around, even if it would make it healthier. the 'goop' left on the pan after you serve the chicken is HEAVENLY.

pinktichels' question crossed my mind too. But if you have the koach....
Dh and ds are away for Shabbos, so I am really taking it easy. Almost everything was cooked by late afternoon, so my cleaning lady did the kitchen, which will make life much easier for me tomorrow.
homemade challah
gefilte fish from the jar
chicken soup with lukshen from the freezer
stovetop roast chicken
sesame noodle salad
brown rice salad
rolled apple kugel for dessert
(for vegetables we will have to suffice with carrots from the soup)
cholent
more jarred gefilte fish
egg salad garnished with cucumber
maybe Israeli salad
cold chicken
salads as above
dessert as above

Stovetop roast chicken (is this recipe now the property of Imamother?): I put the chicken in a frying pan or Dutch oven, season with salt, pepper and a generous amount of paprika, cover and cook on a relatively high flame - not high enough to burn it, but high enough that it roasts and doesn't braise (thereby ending up in a sauce) - for about 45 minutes. Don't overcrowd the pan, or else it will cook and not roast.
Rolled Apple Kugel (from the Yated):
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. hot water
juice of half lemon
Pour half of mixture in bottom of pan. (I use a deep pie pan)
3 apples, thinly sliced
½ tsp. cinnamon
Dough:
1 ½ c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
4 tablespoons oil
scant ½ cup liquid
Roll up dough with apples, jelly roll fashion. Slice and place into pan. Pour half of remaining sugar mixture over. Bake at 350°, pour remainder of sugar mixture over kugel about 15 minutes before end.

Herbed challah
Tuna loaf

Techina
Chilbeh
Raw Garlic spread
Babaganoush
Cole slaw
Lacto-fermented beets
Lacto-fermented ginger carrots
Lacto-fermented onions
Sauerkraut
Chicken soup with noodles
Potato kugel

Friday morning and ALLLL the food is 100% ready aside for the challah (doing that in a few minutes) and the babaganoush needs to be seasoned.
And the place is spotless.
Now what do I do today?????
I'm sure I'll find something more to cook.
