I'd prefer not to have to wash out the potty after every use. I'd like to line it with a bag, and then just throw the whole thing out. Are there any options other than using a shopping bag?

Am I missing something, or is this really expensive? Children use the potty very often, so if liners cost $6/10 liners, that meansyou're spending $6 every 1-2 days on these bags.
I guess I was kind of hoping for something like those scented disposable diaper bags to put your dirty diapers in. You can get like 200 for $8, so they end up lasting a while.
Right now, I see 3 options:
1) paying lots of money for liners
2) using shopping bags that often have little holes in them (and who has so many shopping bags?)
3) just washing out the potty
Are there any other options that I'm missing or is that basically it?
Thanks for your help!

That's what I originally wnated to do, for that reason. But I think that DS will like the potty better...it belongs to him and it's probably more comfortable. If we have toilet training trouble, I don't want to worry that it's because I didn't give him the best option. But yeah, I'm with you, the idea is just gross.

I also believed this and trained several kids with the seat and stool combination. Then with my current toddler, it was just not working. I bought a one piece potty, and he was trained in one day. I use the baby wipes I don't need for diapering anymore to wipe it out (and dispose of the wipes in the diaper disposal bags) It's really not so bad. I haven't done this, but if you're out and need to use it, you could maybe try putting a folded diaper inside it.
In a few weeks, I'll go back to trying the seat again.

when ds was 2.5 he was at a play group and the morah told me to train him standing up, dont bother with the sitting, and it worked very well. DH went to the bathroom with him a few times in the beginning and that was that. Even though its a bit confusing with the doody but for some reason it worked much better than when I tried unsuccessfully with siting down.

Yes, he goes "standing" with the stool and big toilet, but I was talking about "sitting". Only way it would work is with the potty.

I just realized that in my previous post, I responded to your response to anon thinking it was your response to me. Sorry I confused myself with anon.

Oh another thing. When another son had just gotten trained and would sometimes go sitting and sometimes standing, he once was confused, and thought he had to stand, but #2 came out on the floor, so now with current toddler, when he goes standing, because he is new at all of it, I'm always ready to catch it, should something come out from behind.

I cannot believe this happened especially after my last post. This afternoon, my son who has been trained exactly 4 days and is doing great, says "I have to make" I say, "sitting or standing?" he says "standing" So he's done it by himself lots of times and was just fine. I take my time following him into the bathroom. When I get in there, he is standing on the stool, facing away from the toilet, and there is #2 in the toilet. He was so pleased with himself that he did what I told him could not be done! It was just too funny.

it's harder on the bowels not to have feet secure on the floor ... so a potty is way more healthy and effective in making poopy ...
as far as the bags - I prefer excrement going down the sewage rather than sitting around in the garbage - just clean it up right away ...
I'm all for boys standing from the getgo - they do tend to pee sitting if they're busy with a poopy at the same time ...
and back to the liners - buy "baggies" you know the kitchen storage (no zip) ... I'm sure they are just as effective and much cheaper ...

In Restaurant Depot (& I heard they now sell them in Paperific) you can get large storage bags that fit a 9x13 pan. I think the size of the bag is called 10x8x24.
It comes about 500 bags for $35. It comes out to $.07 per bag.
That's what I used. It covers the whole potty insert piece, and when he'd finish I'd just dump the bag, and put in a new one for the next time.
It was amazing!
I also use these bags year round in my kitchen. So I had them in the house anyways.
If you need ideas how to make good use of the extra bags, let me know.

We're not quite up to potty training yet. But quite some time ago, I heard someone suggest using coffee filters in the potty. They said it makes clean up a snap. Since I haven't tried it yet, I can't vouch, but it sounds good.

sounds interesting, but must be only good for BMs.
But a bag collects ALL and doesn't even need a rinse.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I'll have to see if I prefer going crazy wtih bags or just washing out the darn thing.
