So this is the quality we're dealing with. Please accept that when you comment here Very Happy

1. It looks like leather vs. vinyl, leather wins. There are a few in our budget that are possibilities. Anything to look for?

2. I'm still thinking leather vs. upholstery. There's always a reply, it's so easy to reupholster. I don't want to be thinking about that if I'm buying the chairs now. I want upholstery that will look good for a good few years. So I'm better off with leather then, right?

Anything else we should know?

Faux leather is much better than upholstery, it doesn't get so dirty and is easier to clean.

I agree leather is better. Reupholstering costs more than new chairs nowadays. Don't get bonded leather -- it's a thin layer and will peel. Get either real leather (hard to verify online because bonded counts) or faux leather. Also if you have young kids you might want to get chair covers (they have on Amazon) so then get a style that they make covers for.

So do we all agree
Faux leather's better than upholstery.
Real leather's better than faux.
Don't get bonded leather.

I hate faux leather. It always ends up ripping/peeling. I'd much rather upholstery than fake leather. However, I also keep my furniture for a while. If you plan on replacing every 5 years, then I guess it doesn't really matter.
