We keep aside one small bag of mini pretzels. Much easier for me.

Thank you for the reminder.

I try my hardest not to. Tiny apt makes it impossible to do that

Here's a hint: don't use bread or pretzels that can trail crumbs around your pesachdik house. Use dry raw noodles. Put them in bags still obviously, but way less to be nervous about.

Do you actually have to find something? The blessing is on the search right? Not the finishing... Where does the custom of hiding bear come from? To keep the kids engaged?

Yes, we hide bread because something needs to be found in order for the bracha not to be in vain, Levatala
The blessing is on removing the chametz, not searching

Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech haolam, asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav v'tzivanu al biur chametz. Blessed are You, our God, Ruler of the world, who sanctifies us with mitzvot and calls upon us to remove chametz

And you burn it the next morning. So why do you have to hide it the night before?

According to the Kabbalah, one should place 10 pieces

That doesn't tell me why though.

We used to do this, but as we all grew up, we stopped hiding it.. We just save some bread and toss it in our paper bag that sits in our fireplace with the lulavim from Sukkot. Which we burn the morning of.

I always leave one small area uncleaned, where I know there will be chametz, and clean there for bedikat chametz. I've never failed to find something.

This year, with Shabbos only a couple of days before Pesach, it will be easy to have some remnants of lechem mishnah left for bedikat chametz.

They are put out in order to make sure you are making a Bracha on chometz you will be burning. Also assists with the Bedika because you look all over to find anything that may need to be found and dealt with

But technically you don't have to hide it... If you put it aside and designate "this is the chometz I'm burning" then what's the issue?
