Sabra
Asian pear
Passion fruit
Fresh figs are a treat (and any fruit is technically shehechiyanu worthy on the 2nd night of the year, provided you haven't eaten it yet the day before)

I vaguely remember learning you can use any seasonal fruit that you haven't eaten since it came back in season. I only eat Mandarin oranges in the fall, so I technically could use them.
I'd double check, but basically, it doesn't need to be a year.

It's supposed to be a fruit that makes you happy/doesn't grow year round but seasonally. But it can be any of those special fruits that you're eating first time this new year.

We make a fruit platter including the shivas haminim and any new interesting fruit
It’s instead of an appetizer, it’s my first course

It has to be a fruit you haven't eaten that season. Fresh digs are highly infested and very difficult to check.

I was taught that it goes by seasons, not by the calendar year

All you do is split a few open and peek for flies.

I actually avoid the "shechiyanu" fruits because of this. Though usually the typical ones are never in season on R"H so they aren't super tasty.

I get starfruit which is the cheapest. I hate to buy a small fruit and spend 8 or $12

Dh got fresh figs and an Asian pear. What do I look for in the figs? I’ve never had fresh, only dried ones.
