so ... if we had enough oil for 1 night and it lasted 7 more, why is it that we celebrate 8 nights of chanuka - shouldn't it be only 7 ?
the whole reason the greeks were there in the first place was because we didn't respect the shechina in the beis hamikdosh - so we are commemorating that we are winning the war with mesiras nefesh and by lighting the menorah we are fixing up the lack of ohr that we were missing to begin with therefore even that first night was a night to celebrate as well
